The lyrical and beat artist forming words to jazz
Orit Tshuma is undoubtedly one of the most prominent creative women in Israel today. She weaves between poetry, spoken word, and hip hop. Her roots are firmly grounded in jazz, American soul music, and the sounds of Ethiopia.
Tshuma is not merely a rapper. Her ensemble is made up of young jazz platers who are connected to her singular sound, as well as to contemporary jazz and RnB. Continuing the American tradition, Tshuma preserves the old connection between jazz and texts of poets in which the written word serves as a significant anchor for the oeuvre and influences upon it.
Her texts deal with the harsh reality of Israeli life, which a young female creator sometimes faces. With a sharp tongue and a biting sense of humor, she places a rhythmic and seductive mirror in front of the audience. Tshuma creates a new and fascinating genre that captivates listeners with the magic of her beats and groove, making the audience hang on to and be enthralled by her words.
At the festival, Tshuma will perform with the pianist and composer Stav Achai, who recently returned from a successful European tour. The rising jazz-groove creator is beginning to make a name for herself on the local and global jazz scene, following her successful debut album “Plastic Cocoon.”
